In the afternoon’s semi-finals, the only seeding upset came as Julian Tomlinson beat 5/8 seed Robert Dadds in straight games, with all four top seeds going through to the evening’s finals
Tomlinson couldn’t repeat the upset as he lost in straight games to Wales’ Emyr Evans, who qualified for the first time in five attempts Tesni in the main draws. Patrick Rooney and Charlie Lee both won comfortably. Lee, the younger brother of last year’s finalist Joe was playing in his first Nationals. Lyell Fuller also won in three, but his match against Rory Stewart took 67 minutes to complete, with both players having opportunities in the 20-18 third game.
In Thursday’s Round One Rooney faces 9-time champion Nick Matthew, Fuller has another meeting with second seed James Willstrop, Lee faces Josh Masters, and Evans is up against Scotland’s Greg Lobban.
The top two women’s seeds Alison Thomson and Kace Bartley won through, joined by Alicia Mead and Jasmine Hutton, both making the main draw for the first time.
